Before any spread, master the single card. A one-card pull is the simplest, most honest reading there is — and the skill of reading one card well is the skill behind every larger reading.

- ·Name the card and notice your first gut reaction to the image.
- ·Recall its keywords — the few words at its core.
- ·Adjust for orientation: upright or reversed.
- ·Bring it back to your actual question — what is it really saying to you?
