Upright vs. reversed

A reversed card isn't simply 'bad' or the opposite of upright. More often it points to the same energy turned inward, blocked, excessive, or still emerging. Reading orientation well adds a whole second layer to every card.

Step 1 / 3

Ways to read a reversal

  • ·Internal / private: the energy is felt inwardly rather than shown.
  • ·Blocked / delayed: the upright energy is stuck or resisted.
  • ·Excess / shadow: too much of the card's quality, or its shadow side.
  • ·Emerging / releasing: the energy is just arriving, or on its way out.
The Tower
The Tower — upright, sudden upheaval; reversed, a delayed or inner collapse.
